Apple prepares to introduce 3 computers; new line is said to include color Macintosh model at sharply lower price
Article Abstract:
Apple Computer Inc is expected to announce three new Macintosh microcomputers in mid-Oct 1990, including the company's first color Macintosh with a detachable monitor that will sell for around $2,500. People familiar with Apple's plans have indicated that the other two machines will include a microcomputer to replace the Macintosh Plus and a high-end Macintosh that is basically a slimmed-down version of its hot-selling Macintosh IIci. Some analysts state that the new products will represent a watershed for the computer maker because if customer reception is not enthusiastic, it may be forced to abandon its proprietary approach to computing. Apple does not license its system software to other companies.

Apple Computer settles holder suits for $19.8 million
Article Abstract:
Apple Computer Inc settles two shareholder lawsuits. About $16 million will be paid to settle a much-publicized case involving A.C. 'Mike' Markkula Jr., who co-founded Apple, and John Vennard, former head of the company's peripherals division. The men are accused of misleading investors about the outlook for 'Twiggy,' an Apple disk drive product. The other suit, settled for $3.8 million, involves optimistic profit projections earlier in 1991. Again, investors say they were misled. The total settlement of about $19.8 million will be paid mostly by Apple's insurers. Fourth quarter earnings should not be affected. Apple's stock was down 50 cents on Friday, Dec 20, 1991, closing at $50.25.
