Are you prepared for the Euro?
Article Abstract:
Prestige Software International Senior VP Laura Hills explains the challenges that go with the introduction of the new single currency in Europe. She predicts that the euro would expand intercountry trade, increase competition levels and make the operations of treasury firms in the region much simpler. It also has important implications for the information technology departments of multinational companies dealing in Europe. To ease the burden of these organizations, a three-year transition period is allowed before the euro is launched as denomination bank notes and coins in the year 2002. Hills says that financial managers and accountants can learn the accounting procedural changes related to the event by consulting the published journals released by the European Commission or visit its Web site.
