Assessing production and operations management related journals: the European perspective
Article Abstract:
The relevance and quality of production and operations management (POM)-related journals were evaluated from the perspective of European researchers. Journal rankings were compared to those obtained by Barman et al (1991), whose evaluation of POM-related journals was based on the perspectives of academic in the US. It was found that although there are some differences in perception between European and US researchers regarding POM publications, the overall picture across the Atlantic remains the same. Nonetheless, the results of the study need to be interpreted with caution due to the subjective nature of the data.

Differences in manufacturing strategy decisions between Japanese and Western manufacturing plants: the role of strategic time orientation
Article Abstract:
Marked differences were noted with regards to manufacturing strategy orientations of Japanese and Western companies. Data obtained from an international research study revealed that differences in management practices between Japanese and Western firms can be partly attributed to fundamental cultural differences in time approach of managers. Unlike Western firms that tend to focus more on short-term performance objectives, Japanese firms put equal emphasis on short-term and long-term performance objectives.
