Assessing the work environment for creativity
Article Abstract:
We describe the development and validation of a new instrument, KEYS: Assessing the Climate for Creativity, designed to assess perceived stimulants and obstacles to creativity in organizational work environments. The KEYS scales have acceptable factor structures, internal consistencies, test-retest reliabilities, and preliminary convergent and discriminant validity. A construct validity study shows that perceived work environments, as assessed by the KEYS scales, discriminate between high-creativity projects and low-creativity projects; certain scales discriminate more strongly and consistently than others. We discuss the utility of this tool for research and practice. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)

Relationships among goal difficulty, business strategies, and performance on a complex management simulation task
Article Abstract:
A complex, strategic management, computer simulation was used over a ten-week period to examine the effect of goal difficulty and use of business strategies on firm performance. Participants developed a limited number of competitive business strategies, similar to well-known strategies identified in strategic management research, to deal with task complexity. Both goals and strategies had significant effects on performance, but the effect of strategy was stronger than that of goals. In addition, goals affected strategies, and strategies moderated the goal-performance relationship. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)
