Australia's fastest-growing private companies experienced dramatic growth rates, posting increases from 157% to 14,557%, compared to a high of 1,701% reported in 1997. The largest increases were found in firms having less than 20 employees and the founder holding the CEO position. Business, finance and property services are the primary industries experiencing this growth.

The average sales revenue of private Australian companies rose 9.6% in 1998 from 1997. Larger companies are becoming more aggressive and less conservative, and the number of new companies has increased. Employment increased by 4.6% from 1997 to 1998. Forecasts for the future include more outsourcing, more movement overseas, and larger workforces.
