New equipment, methods and training to increase productivity are weapons against recession. Deltak Pty. Ltd. Management offers courses in the trends, implementation and use of technology, and Zerox Learning Systems presents methods for a successful presentation. Westinghouse ASD reports savings in cost and an increase in job productivity through its open office layout plan. Race Furniture System consists of adjustable work areas mounted on a horizontal beam that conducts all wiring. The Kindermann FR5 is a portable unit containing a microfilm reader, fan motor, tilting deflector, 100W lamp, screen and more. Hewlett-Packard is adapting a series of programs for the Australian business and manufacturing market, and Creswick Datamster has automated payroll and production monitoring. Pictures of office layouts and a microfilm reader are included.

Working from Home: A Productivity Option
Article Abstract:
An experiment by Rank Xerox in England is structured so that Xerox provides networking and contracts with workers who are organized as small independent businesses and are encouraged to extend their services to others besides Xerox. The workers use Wordstar word processing and the Supercalc spreadsheet on Xerox 820 microcomputers. Xerox is developing the Ethernet local area network to provide communication with such office material as printers and graphics software. Xerox, together with City University also provides the new entrepreneurs with training. Contracts resolve such issues as: job costing; bulk discounts; output ownership; equipment leasing; and security. The pros and cons of working at home are discussed.

Fourth Generation Language for Productivity

RAMSIS II has been selected by the Australian Mutual Provident Society. RAMSIS II is a fourth-generation software system, and was chosen because of company support and technological capabilities. It will also be used for a telephone accounting system. RAMSIS II systems pay for themselves within the first year.
