Big Five profitability rises 25%

The average profit per partner of American Big Five accounting firms rose 25.1% from $463,652 to $580,168 in 1997-98, reported consultant James Emerson. Emerson expects the Big Five to grow at an annual global rate of 20%, with U.S. contributions at around 25%. Emerson says that PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P. has the best potential for profit gains, while Ernst and Young L.L.P. continues to advance knowledge management.
