Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney was accused in newspaper accounts of participating in a bribery scheme that involved Air Canada's purchase of planes from Airbus Industrie in 1988. The allegations have been made before, but this is the first time Mulroney's name has been mentioned.

Boeing ex-unit tied to Bahamas bribe

Canadian authorities are investigating charges that de Havilland Inc paid $786,000 in bribes to the Bahamas state-run airline BahamasAir. The bribes allegedly happened during 1988-89, when de Havilland was still owned by Boeing Co. Businessman Duncan Rapier is the primary source of the charges.
