Boeing to shift some jet output to Long Beach to ease strain
Article Abstract:
Boeing Co. will begin building some of its single-aisle 737 jets in Long Beach, Calif., starting in the second half of 1999. Boeing has paid heavy penalties to airlines for missing delivery dates, because it has more orders for 737's than it can handle. The shift to Long Beach will relieve strain at Boeing's Seattle production line. Boeing is expected to build three 737's a month in Long Beach and possibly five a few months after production begins. The move could create problems with the International Association of Machinists.
