Issues concerning the necessity for Australian people to become more aware of the dangers of brain attacks or strokes are discussed. It is emphasized that Australia needs public education programs to increase the knowledge of the risk factors, symptoms and how to prevent strokes.

Smoking creates significant social and health care costs in Australia. Boosting anti-smoking initiatives would bring a loss of tobacco tax revenue for the government, but this would be balanced out by lives saved and reduced health care costs.
