Business & Government: The Origins of the Adversary Relationship
Article Abstract:
A history of the relationship between public sector and private sector in the United States is detailed. State ownership in the United States is compared to that of other countries. In this light, the growth in public spending in the United States is substantiated. Other governments seem to promote the development of business enterprise while the United States seems to restrain it. The economy of the United States is strongly tied to other countries. Ideology in the United States emphasizes less government action when the need for it is evident. The rise of big business changed the meaning of private enterprise. Growth rates of government and big business are diagrammed. American businessmen retain high social status compared to foreign businessmen. Conditions of legitimacy in the mixed economy include efficiency, fairness, and shared power. The best examples of successful public-private cooperation have occurred during a crisis.

Robbing the Data Bank
Article Abstract:
Faulty government data is constant today. Systematic data errors are partly to blame. Due to budgetary reductions the amount of money being spent to gather data and the size of the staff have been reduced. The result of all this confused economic reporting is that less useful information is provided. This in turn makes it difficult for the government or corporations to plan economic direction or make decisions about future economic prospects.
