Intel to enter market for 'chip sets' used to build clones of IBM PCs
Article Abstract:
Intel Corp introduces the Genesis 386 SX System, which is a chip set based on the 80386SX microprocessor. Intel hopes to take part of the growing market for chip sets used to build IBM clones. The Genesis chips, scheduled for introduction on Mon, Oct 15, 1990, are designed to be used in laptops and portable machines. Intel's product introduction puts the company in direct competition with companies such as Chips & Technologies Inc, which has created a profitable niche selling chips that squeeze circuits normally contained on 20 or more chips into a set of three or four.
