Coal miners strike in Russia, Ukraine
Article Abstract:
More than one million Russian and Ukrainian coal miners went on strike Feb 1, 1996, demanding that back wages be paid. Miners in Russia returned to work on Feb 3, 1996, after Pres Boris Yeltsin agreed to industry subsidies. However in the Ukraine 30% of mines remained closed as of Feb 12, 1996.

Yeltsin, Russian Congress compromise on reform

The Russian Congress of People's Deputies has agreed to conditionally support Russian Pres Boris Yeltsin's radical economic reforms. The resignation of the cabinet was announced on Apr 13, 1992, as a show of support for Yeltsin.
