Commonwealth buys media input
Article Abstract:
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has reorganized its marketing communications division and funded a new media buying service, Ikon Communications. Ikon will potentially handle all of Commonwealth's marketing communications budget of approximately $100 million. Ikon will be involved in not only above-the-line advertising but with all of the bank's communications, including TV, direct marketing, promotions, and network sponsorship. Commonwealth's investment is by way of a revolving line of credit that Ikon has two years to repay.

Solesbury gets into its stride
Article Abstract:
Joanne Mercer and her colleagues' experience paid off when they founded Solesbury, a specialist shoe store bearing her own name as a brand line and then purchased the PB Shoes chain to further promote the line. Solesbury has 11 stores in Australia. By 2003, 42 stores will be in operation. In 1997, Mercer rebranded six PB stores to carry her line of shoes aimed at professional women between the ages of 22 and 50.
