Computers and accounting
Article Abstract:
The computer program Focus:ABC, developed by Hemming Morse, Inc., an accounting firm in San Mateo, California, promises to become one of the most useful accounting tools. It is a series of templates whose modules contain a trial balance that can be set up in either a 'difference' format or a 'tax' format. A distinguishing feature of the program is the way information can be moved from other modules into the trial balance, and from the trial balance onto final reports. The major problem of the program is that it is slow. Focus:ABC comes in two versions: the audit version, which sells for $495, and the compilation version, which is marketed at $245. Focus:ABC requires Lotus 1-2-3, Release 2 to operate and 512Kbytes of memory, as well as two floppy disk drives or a floppy and a hard disk.

Article Abstract:
The Boston computer show sponsored by Digital Equipment Corp. (DEC) was highlighted by several advanced computer systems for accounting use. The computer maker displayed numerous applications for financial managers, including a computer that could be used for the processing of items or operations like money transfers, word processing, electronic mail, and employment benefits coverage. Also, accounting firms can use the IVIS system, which is based on laser disks and interactive technology, for training efforts.
