Conner Peripherals could claim title of fastest-growing manufacturing firm
Article Abstract:
Conner Peripherals is becoming the fastest-growing start-up manufacturing firm in US history. As the hard-disk drive manufacturer approaches sales of $650 million in its third year of business, Conner will soon surpass Compaq Computer Corp in the business record books. For the first three quarters of 1989, net income at the company jumped 84 percent from 1988, to $26.9 million. Conner's success is tied to the popularity of battery-powered portable and laptop computers: Conner controls 90 percent of the hard-disk drive market for laptops, and the company supplies drives to Compaq, Zenith Data Systems, Toshiba Corp, NEC Corp and Sharp Corp. Conner may have to relinquish its stranglehold on the market as Seagate Technology and Japanese manufacturers are poised to enter the laptop hard-disk drive market.

Article Abstract:
Conner Peripherals and Alps Electric Ltd have an edge in the competition over the rights to Prairie Tek Corp's patents for innovative disk drive technology. Conner to post strong results for 3rd quarter
Article Abstract:
Conner Peripherals Inc posts results of a strong 3rd qtr 1990 with net income reaching $40.6 million, or 71 cents a share, up sharply from the $11.8 million the hard disk drive maker made in 3rd qtr 1989. Sales increased 106 percent for the period, up to $380.4 million from 1989's reported $184.4 million. The results are between 10 and 15 percent higher than analysts expected and reflect the growing market for hard disk drives. Conner's products are aimed at desktop microcomputers and laptop computers; many new microcomputers use their small disk drives to store large amounts of data. Conner is also designing small hard disk drives for facsimile machines and laser printers, a market that promises great potential although Conner has yet to penetrate it.
