Consensus in franchise organizations: a cooperative arrangement among entrepreneurs
Article Abstract:
The perceived consensus on the indicators of competition means was studied and the consensus on means and ends was analyzed in terms of its relationship with competitive advantage and performance in franchise systems. Statistically significant differences were observed between the competitive methods that franchisees emphasize and those that they attribute to their franchisor. Dissension is believed to occur in relations between franchisees and franchisors even if such consensus is positively related to the franchise system's competitive advantage, the satisfaction of franchisees and retail business performance.

Toward a theory of conflict in the franchise system
Article Abstract:
A theoretical explanation was developed to account for the franchisor-franchisee relationship and the nature of inherent conflicts. Adopting a neoclassical economic standpoint will clearly show the potential for tension between franchisors and franchisees, specifically in their choice of profit maximizing and pricing strategies. Transaction-cost economics characterize a hybrid organization that aims to maximize marketplace incentives and, at the same time, control the relationship between two independent companies.

An empirical evaluation of conflict in the franchise system
Article Abstract:
It is possible to identify a number of possible reasons for the existence of conflict in franchising. The relationship between the franchisee and the franchisor is a dynamic one subject to a wide range of factors. In particular, problems can arise as the franchisor seeks to strike the right balance between coordination and a more independent relationship. There is clearly a boundary of transaction efficiency, and it is in the interests of the franchisor to try to identify and maintain this.
