Cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs) as technology transfer mechanisms
Article Abstract:
The cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs) between federal R&D agencies and private firms are mainly used for transferring technologies developed in federal R&D facilities to private enterprises. An analysis of the CRADAs involving the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico revealed a number of problems which are inherent in CRADAs as vehicles for technology transfer. Most private enterprises and federal laboratories do not have the same organizational culture and private firms criticize the complexity and slowness of federal transactions.

R&D project selection and scheduling for organizations facing product obsolescence
Article Abstract:
A methodology was proposed to effectively streamline project scheduling. The methodology initially involves determination of specific targeted growth rate followed by analysis of the demand for the product. Factors such as product demand assessment, comprehensive market survey and feasibility analysis were identified as vital in the creation of R&D. Application of the methodology in an organization has resulted in the dramatic improvement of work as well as in satisfying stated production goals.

How R&D is coordinated in Japanese and European multinationals
Article Abstract:
The coordination of R&D in Japanese and European multinational firms are investigated. Results show that coordination between Japanese and European firms vary. Japanese firms, for instance, favor the effective coordination of the value chain along research-development-production-marketing. On the other hand, European firms depend on internal contract research and the internal quasi-market for R&D coordination.
