Corporate leadership in a globalizing equity market
Article Abstract:
The globalization of the equity markets has enabled institutional investors to seek higher returns and lower risks in the internationally, and for domestic companies to tap foreign capital. Thus, businesses are reorganizing their operations to boost shareholder values, redefining management relations with foreign stockholders and restructuring management compensation to align their interests with those of global investors. In addition, executives are acquiring new leadership skills to survive in a business environment which increasingly defined by global shareholders.

Housing and Urban Development Sec Henry Cisneros is perceived by many as an effective leader. His appointment to the cabinet and the rise of other members of the baby boom generation to positions of power has caused speculation regarding capabilities of these new leaders. In an interview made before his confirmation, Cisneros reveals his reliance on role models and a personal support system to accomplish his leadership tasks effectively. He also talks about the influence of experience and historical figures in the development of his leadership qualities.
