Cost benefit discussion for knowledge-based estimation tools
Article Abstract:
Three ways of calculating the cost savings associated with using knowledge-based estimating software tools for project management are described. One approach, called reduced planning time, is the most tangible and simplest of the three as it focuses on actual cost savings per project. The second approach, called improved planning results, focuses on efficiency gains from better planning and savings associated with avoiding canceled projects. The third approach takes a look at the long-term benefits, which are difficult to measure.

Capturing intellectual assests in a project management organization
Article Abstract:
Managerial expertise gleaned from actual experience is an organizational intellectual asset which can be captured in a software program and used as a tool for project management. The software construction takes the form of four developmental stages: data collection, organization, utilization/diffusion, and maintenance. The application helps project managers increase lead time, improve team work, provide on-demand training and store managerial experience gathered in the course of a project.

The software selection project: tips from a pro: an interview with LGS's Max Feierstein, PMP
Article Abstract:
LGS Group director Max Feierstein stresses the importance of user classifications when acquiring a project management software. He recommends Microsoft Project and Timeline for the novice category, while ABT's Project Workbench is recommended for the intermediate level. For the advanced category, Artemis Views is highly recommended. Feierstein also warns that the system is not a solution, but a mere tool that requires trained users.
