Costello wins CEOs' vote: more than two in five chief executives from Australia's top 500 companies regard Treasurer Peter Costello as the alternative prime minister
Article Abstract:
A survey of 150 chief executives from Australia's top 500 companies reveals a great deal of support for Treasurer Peter Costello to succeed John Howard as prime minister if Howard were to resign. Rumors about Howard's impending resignation were endemic among foreign exchange traders. Costello is favored particularly by chief executives in the wholesale/retail, services and natural resources industries. The only other minister trained as alternative prime minister, Peter Reith of Workplace Relations, is favored by the finance and manufacturing industries.
