Court rules against states on patent suits
Article Abstract:
A Federal appeals court has ruled that College Savings Bank can sue the State of Florida for the unauthorized use of its patented college-savings program. The court said that states can be sued for infringing the patent owned by a company or an individual. The ruling is one of the first to challenge a 1996 ruling by the Supreme Court which curbed the authority of Congress to subject states to lawsuits. The Court of Appeals said that the 14th Amendment empowered Congress to prevent states from taking private property, including patent rights, without the due process of the law.

A number of consulting and executive search firms have gone public recently or soon will. Going public helps bring more funding, allowing the expansion of a company and the addition of stock options to senior management salaries. Some past experiences with consulting companies going public have been troubled and a number of major consulting companies have no plans or interest in going public. However, Consulting Information Services president and industry watcher Tom Rodenhauser predicts 20%-30% will eventually go public.
