The value of the Australian dollar has fluctuated significantly since 1999. A rise in the value of the dollar to between $0.50 and $0.52 would be most beneficial for the economy in 2002. Most economists forecast a level of $0.45 to $0.55 by Jan 2002.

The predictions of economic forecasters on the future of the Australian economy are discussed. The end of the high level of exports, the weakness of the Australian dollar and a low level of economic growth in 2001-2002 are examined.
