Customizing concurrent engineering processes: five case studies
Article Abstract:
The efficiency of the product development process is enhanced by the application of concurrent engineering (CE) strategies. CE combines the resources and skills of research groups during the development of a product. This system involves the cooperation of the management, technical and design build teams in the different stages of technological research. The level of consolidation depends on the intricacy of the proposed project. This strategy integrates the efforts of a company thereby enhancing the probability of success.

Enhancing concept test validity by using expert consumers
Article Abstract:
Companies usually use consumers who simply use a product in their concept tests. However, such a practice may invalidate the results of the test since the consumers lack the necessary product knowledge to make proper and consistent product evaluations. Two experiments show that consumers with a moderate-to-high level of product knowledge can make more reliable evaluations than those with lower levels of product knowledge. The key implications of consumers' product expertise are discussed.
