Defining the inventor-entrepreneur in the context of established typologies
Article Abstract:
A classification scheme developed 25 years ago by Norman R. Smith, describing inventor-entrepreneurs and the kind of firms they manage, was tested by sending surveys to applicants for US National Science Foundation grants. The study verified most of the classification scheme's postulations. These postulations include inventor-entrepreneurs being typified as craftsmen and an emphasis among inventor-entrepreneurs towards new product development programs.
