Determinants of technological innovation in the small firms of Korea
Article Abstract:
Technological innovation emerges as an imperative among companies in newly industrializing countries (NICs) as they begin to lose their competitive edge due to rising labor costs. A study is conducted to isolate factors that govern technological innovation in small Korean companies. A group of 24 innovative firms is compared with a group of 25 non-innovative firms on the basis of variations in structural, strategic, environmental and top management characteristics. Managerial attitude toward innovation seems to be the most critical factor, although predominant characteristics vary according to types of organization.
