Digital vies again to be PC heavyweight
Article Abstract:
DEC plans to assert itself in the microcomputer market with a new product based on the Intel 80486 microprocessor. DEC is also expected to unveil its first portable computer soon. The 80486-based microcomputer will be priced about 45 percent lower than competitive models from Compaq Computer Corp and target government agencies and traditional customers in big corporations. Industry analysts note that DEC lost its previous chance to get into the microcomputer market in the past, but they think that the company's latest foray might finally prove to be successful.
