Does power determine who selects the successor?
Article Abstract:
A study shows that CEO succession in business enterprises is determined by the psychological biases and power held by the incumbent CEO and board members. Incumbent CEOs who are more powerful than their boards select successors who are of the same age and have the same funcational background and education as they do while boards that are more powerful than incumbent CEOs also prefer candidates who share their own demographic characteristics.
