David Arnott, a small-business owner is trying to secure a license for his Great Tastes of Australia, a retail outlet at Echo Point, in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales that offers tastes of macadamia nuts and ginger. If a license is granted to Arnott, wine and beer would also be offered at the centre which caters for about 2.5 million tourists a year but Liquorland's legislation is objecting to his application and the battle continues.

The firm's share price has decreased to $1.23 Australian in Sep 1999 from $1.65 Australian in Mar 1997. David Jones Chmn Dick Warburton expected great economic returns during this time period when CEO Peter Wilkinson was selected.
