Reports on the declining levels of manufacturing activity, rising unemployment rate, and a dour retail backdrop makes it increasingly likely that U.S. gross domestic product will see negligible growth for the first half of 2008. The odds of a recession for 2008 has grown to about a one in two chance while the interest rate could be brought down to 3 percent by the Federal Reserve to stave off a recession.
