Economics language and assumptions: How theories can become self-fulfilling
Article Abstract:
A description is given about the way in which the dominant assumptions, language and ideas of economics exercise a subtle but powerful influence on behavior. Social science theories could become self-fulfilling by shaping institutional designs and management practices, as well as social norms and expectations about behavior, thereby creating the behavior they predict.

Prescriptions are not enough

Bazerman feels that economics has achieved its position of dominance simply because it provides prescriptions unlike other social sciences. However, it is argued that other social sciences do offer prescriptive advice but are rarely influential.
