Entrepreneurial Spirit Is Saving Duluth
Article Abstract:
Duluth, Minnesota had traditionally been a city dependent on big business, such as the steel industry, until the recession brought unemployment in that city to the seventeen per cent mark. Now the city is looking toward the establishment and growth of small businesses as a means of creating jobs, and helping Duluth recover some of its economic base. The strong entrepreneurial spirit is being supported, slowly, by local politicans, and even more slowly by local banks. Several of these new, successful small businesses are described, along with the Economic Simulation Activity Laboratory (ESAL), a computer program which helps analyze and forecast the impact of various economic scenarios upon a location.
