Equipment at Work: No Wrong Numbers with Yellow Pages Updated Filing
Article Abstract:
Edward H O'Brien, Pty Ltd, handles the advertising and compilation of Telecom's Yellow Pages in New South Wales. The order files were stored in bins covering 1500 square feet of office floor space. O'Brien has installed Datafile's color-coded filing system on shelves which now occupy 234 square feet. Datafile produces, by computerized machine, file folders which are labeled with colored labels that in turn are numbered with a programmable number series. The colored labels form a pattern so that a misplaced file easily stands out. A photograph shows how the color patterns look.

Bar Codes Make Filing a Frolic
Article Abstract:
Datafile has devised a system of identifying folders with one- inch high colored mylar coated labels. Alphabetical files have the first two letters of the name on the color-coded labels on each folder. One can see immediately at a distance what letters a folder has and if the folder is in its proper place in storage. The File Room On-Line Information Control (FROLIC) consists of bar codes that can be machine read. This system, for large files, keeps an accounting of files that are checked out and can be used to limit access to authorized persons.
