Europe is learning to love junk: investors are turning to high-yield bonds now that the Euro has blocked big returns from exchange movements

European companies are utilizing high yield junk bonds in order to avoid short-term bank borrowing. Company restructuring, and the introduction of the Euro, are major factors in the popularity of junk bonds. Also, junk bonds are popular with companies that require flexible financing. Commercial banks limit their loans to five years and require 20% of the loan to be repaid each year.
