Financial stocks fuel market advance despite weakness in technology issues
Article Abstract:
Financial stocks helped Nasdaq over-the-counter market rise, despite heavy selling in the technology issues. Investors have resumed buying technology stocks, which they had previously ignored because of disappointing earning reports. But as lower earning reports resumed, many investors were selling again. Novell issues fell 3.88 to 25 on 2.8 million shares. Novell blamed lower earnings on its move away from the non-strategic hardware business, stating that they do not expect to see the benefits of reducing operating expenses until the fiscal 4th qtr which ends in Oct 1989. Other stocks that fell were Apple Computer, down 0.75 to 43.25, and Sun Microsystems down .63 to 14.5.

Nasdaq composite sets another high as technology stocks return to favor
Article Abstract:
Computer company stocks are performing well on the stock exchange, as traders grab at computer-related stocks, improving share prices. Some stocks that are doing well in Oct, 1989 are Intel Corp, Apple, Oracle Systems Corp and Conner Peripherals. The high-technology group has given a mixed performance throughout 1989, and analysts wonder if this sudden activity signifies a rally. There have been false starts before, though, so no one is completely optimistic. The stocks are trading off their 1990 earnings expectations, which could be lower than predicted; caution is recommended when purchasing computer stocks.

Technology issues are popular now, but may fade soon
Article Abstract:
The surge in over-the-counter technology stock prices at the end of Nov 1990 and beginning of Dec 1990 could fade at the beginning of 1991. Technology issues normally experience a lift at the end of the year as customers rush to use up their annual budgets on technological devices. Industry observers note that technology issues appear too expensive in light of their cautious 1991 forecasts. Investors are looking to network-related stocks and are shunning companies that do not have any new products out on the market, especially software publishers.
