FlexiInternational: providing access to information
Article Abstract:
FlexiInternational Software CEO Stefan R. Bothe believes that the emergence of client/server technology in the early 1990s represents a technological paradigm shift. He explains that although his company specializes in client/server solutions for the accounting function, it is actually not in the accounting software business but is in the information access business because controllers, management accountants and financial managers are actually involved in the provision of information for decisionmaking. Bothe also adds that FlexiInternational's focus on component object technology allows user companies to shift application easily when they decide to enter different businesses. Finally, Bothe contends that the Internet could also revolutionize the field of information just a client/server did. The financial software manufacturers will be affected by this radical shift.

Microsoft: tooling the information age
Article Abstract:
Microsoft corporate controller John Connors admits that his company did not even have an integrated sales information system in 1994 because it was too busy developing innovative software. However, he is proud to say that the software giant already has the best consolidated financial systems across all its financial disciplines. Connors says these systems enable him to perform his job as a controller, that is, to provide required financial information to people in the organization wherever they are in the globe anytime they need it. He observes that this is a sign that the roles of information people and financial professionals are blurring. Connors states that his ability to provide financial information has improved his credibility as a controller, enabled him to get involved in the business and widened his influence in the company.
