Security breach hits Microsoft's Passport
Article Abstract:
Microsoft locked down part of its Passport Internet service and Express Service for more than 2 days because of a security glitch that could disclose customer's credit card information. Programmer Marc Slemko discovered the problem and notified the company last week when he figured out a way to steal private information by sending a booby-trapped e-mail message to Hotmail customers. Microsoft claims that no one was able to take advantage of the flaw just as the company plans to host a security conference, the Trusted Computing Forum. The problem was associated with Express Checkout.

EBay's profit fell by 70% in 2nd period
Article Abstract:
Ebay Inc, the Internet auction-house reports an income decline of $816,000 from the year-earlier period, mostly because of acquisitions costs and an expensive service outage. The stock dropped to $98 in after-hours trading after the earnings announcement. eBay purchased Alando and Billpoint Inc., which currently has no revenue but into which eBay invests. But the company has insisted that it will always spend aggressively, and shrewdly. The company previously bought Butterfield & Butterfield Auctioneers Corp. and Kruse International.
