French ambassador to Australia recalled

France recalled Girard on Aug 1, 1995, in response to continued protests in Australia against France's plan to conduct underground nuclear tests on Mururoa Atoll in French Polynesia. New Zealand and Japan also condemned the tests, and French Pres Jacques Chirac's popularity has declined.
