GM wants separate contract talks for Delphi
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp. wants separate contract talks with the United Auto workers for its Delphi Automotive Systems unit. Delphi will soon be an independent unit. GM argues that Delphi is a separate business that should be able to negotiate its own contract with the union. GM argues that Delphi is in an industry where wage rates are lower. The UAW said that Delphi workers enjoy the same wages and benefits as workers the represents at GM. The current contract expires in September 1999.
