Gateway offers choice on Web software; Netscape's Internet browser will now be installed as well as Microsoft's(Gateway 2000) (Company Business and Marketing)
Article Abstract:
Gateway 2000 said consumers will have the choice of Netscape's Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer for Web-browsing software in its first Windows 98-based systems starting in Jun 1998. Another Gateway announcement consists of offering its own Internet service, gateway.net. The systems modifications represent a defiant stand against Microsoft, as Gateway-built PCs will no longer exclusively feature Microsoft's Web software. The design, meanwhile, will route novice Internet users to gateway.net rather than to Microsoft, which seeks to guide users to a list of ISP partners. Gateway also introduced a marketing initiative that offers several long-term installment payment options for PCs, software, Internet access and other services. Consumers could spend as little as $50 per month to receive a PC, monitor and unlimited Internet access for four years.
