Gathering clouds
Article Abstract:
Economists have mixed forecasts for the US economy in 1999 as economic problems in Russia and Asia also loom over the markets of Brazil and Latin America. Forecasts remain divided over the probability of a US recession in 1999 due to a poor showing in the sectors of exports, investments, government spending, housing, and consumer spending. Experts are apprehensive of a worsening of the Asian financial crisis, which has adversely affected the local economy, fearing a spread to Latin America will substantially cripple the export market.
