Private company co-operatives in Australia have improved financially or remained stable. The main factor in a successful cooperative is its link between participation and ownership. The Dairy Farmers Co-operative Ltd., in its 99th year, increased its revenues by 25% in 1998-99. Dairy Farmers intends to keeps its supply enterprise a co-operative, but the processing enterprise will become a publicly-listed company partially owned by farmers.
