Succession in family owned businesses can be difficult, as the case of the Australian grocery retailer Harvey Norman and wholesaler Davids Ltd. illustrates. Harvey Norman Managing Director Michael Harvey resigned from the company founded by his father, possibly to pursue a career in alternative health therapies, while Jeff David, the oldest son of Davids Ltd. owner John David, has lost his dream to take over the business.
