Gonzalez denies terrorist charges

Spanish Premier Felipe Gonzalez denied charges that his Socialist Party government participated in underground antiterrorist activities during the mid-1980s. Gonzalez made the denial Feb. 8, 1995 in his State of the Nation address where he also downplayed the clamor for his resignation.

Gonzalez won his fourth term of office on Jun 6, 1993, when the Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) won the most votes in a general election. The PSOE had lost its majority in the Spanish parliament and was forced to join forces with two other parities to retain power.
