Happy Warrior in the Labor Law Battles
Article Abstract:
Robert Thompson, chairman of the labor law committee of the United States Chamber of Commerce, is a strong and willing fighter for business rights on Capitol Hill. He started as a lawyer in an Atlanta firm, and often accompanied one of the partners on trips to Washington D.C. to represent business interests at the International Labor Organization. Thus began a career devoted to representing business interests, and his own law firm. He is often a witness for Congressional subcommittees on issues relating to business matters, and is noted for his calm, authoritative manner, his ability to communicate, and his refusal to be intimidated by anyone.

He Doesn't Go By the Book
Article Abstract:
The man who heads the Government Printing Office (GPO) has his employees marching in protest at some of the changes he wants to make in the way the GPO is run. The agency employees are unionized and have a lot of benefits that other non-union government employees are denied. The agency should be self supporting; instead, due to poor management and very high personnel costs, it is running at a loss of one million dollars per month. Despite employee protest, Danford Sawyer Jr. plans to get the GPO on its feet, and operate with more cost effective business techniques.
