Headhunters sit this one out
Article Abstract:
The Australian Federal Government has announced its second round of bidding for its Job Network scheme, but some of the largest employment recruiters question its commercial viability. Job Network pays 300 private agencies to find jobs for Australia's 800,000 unemployed. Also, agencies will receive staggered payments for intensive services and obtain a final payment only after a person has remained in the same job for 26 weeks. Morgan and Banks, Australia's biggest recruiter, claimed no interest in the low-skilled jobs that are associated with the scheme.

Head-to-head as executive searchers choose a future
Article Abstract:
The executive search firm industry is undergoing massive changes as some of the largest firms in the world seek to expand through stock market funding and mergers. Korn/Ferry, growing at 20%, in February 1999, was the first big search firm to list on the stock exchange, followed by Heidrick and Struggles Inc. Both firms intend to expand global services and utilize advertising and the Internet.

Got the chop? Don't do your block. Start to take stock
Article Abstract:
Australia's Harris Smith and Associates uses specific guidelines to prepare and place executives who have lost their jobs. Executives are advised to inquire if their roles can be redefined rather than eliminated and indentify the time-frame for the change. New skills can usually be acquired within the time-frame, increasing the opportunity to be retained or hired elsewhere.
