The culture of discounting and the mindset of consumers regarding expecting decreasing prices, makes it difficult for businesses to raise their prices even though the cost of raw materials and imports have increased. Australian economy is very buoyant, but household debts and interest rates are increasing, making it impossible for businesses to increase prices, thus forcing them to concentrate on productivity rather than on increasing prices.
