Home appliance industry
Article Abstract:
Forecasts for the home appliance industry are mixed at the close of 1996. Near term, prospects for increased profits are slim, partly because of rising inventories and pressure on prices. Domestic manufacturers have not reached their export goals, as the European market remains sluggish and Asian sales are not meeting expectations. Nevertheless, patient investors may expect long-term growth in the stocks of outstanding appliance manufacturers such as Whirlpool Corp. or Black & Decker Corp.

Home appliance industry
Article Abstract:
Strong product demand during the 1st qtr of 1999 has allowed most of the companies which comprise the home appliances industry to show higher profits for the period. A shift in the market and quality initiatives at several companies, and a greater global product demand are some of the trends which are affecting the industry in 1999. These stocks are expected to outperform the market for the year ahead, but are not all that attractive for the next three to five years.
