Hotel/gaming industry
Article Abstract:
The hotel industry is expected to continue growing in 1995, but this may slow if air fares continue to rise. New services, such as time-share, are expected to offset low growth. New casinos are being constructed in Las Vegas, NV, and casinos are expanding throughout the US and Canada. Hotel and casino stocks are risky, but Marriott International, Mirage Resorts, and International Game Technology are timely investments.

Article Abstract:
Hotels are seeing higher room rates and occupancy levels in the mid-1990s, reversing a previous downward trend. Known standards of quality, name recognition, and computerized reservation systems are giving large chains an advantage. Casinos are entering areas of the US where gaming is now legal, and are moving away from the hotel industry. Investors need to focus on well-known stocks with strong balance sheets.

Hotel/gaming industry
Article Abstract:
The hotel and lodging industry has become more attractive in the 1990's with increased demand after the 1980's glut. Well-known hotel chains such as Hilton and Marriott are expected to do well. Casino gambling is spreading to areas other than Las Vegas, NV and Atlantic City, NJ but growth is not expected to be rapid. Most investors will find shares in this group to be risky.
