GM's Hughes offers rescue to ICO system
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corporation's unit, Hughes Electronics Corporation, along with other investors, has offered to aid the foundering ICO Global Communications Ltd. The London-based ICO Global, a satellite communications firm, has been suffering from a steady loss of investor support of its mobile telephone systems. This is partially due to the financial default of Motorola Incorporated's Iridium L.L.C.'s low-earth orbit satellite system. Hughes, holding a four percent stake in ICO Global, has offered to invest as much as $600 million in addition to the $94 million it already has invested.
